CREATING A SHARED BEDROOM

With our recent move to California, I am getting the opportunity to redesign some spaces. One of the biggest changes from our old house is that the boys are now sharing a bedroom. I wanted to make sure the room worked for both boys - and they both happen to share an interest in Star Wars (which I have actually wanted to incorporate for a while). Themed rooms are definitely not my thing though. So, I started with the main elements I knew I wanted and am only adding a few subtle pops of Star Wars, which can easily be swapped out if their new fave thing becomes something else in a few years. We already had the red shop chests, and I thought they were perfect because it would give each of them one to store their clothes. I found these awesome printable Star Wars posters on Etsy, and I can't wait to order and print them. I plan to use washi tape as frames to make them more playful, a clever idea I found on Apartment Therapy

The boys were both sleeping in full-sized beds when they had their own rooms. Two twin beds were a necessity for the new room, and I have always loved these black Jenny Lind beds from Land of Nod. The biggest impact in this room is definitely the rug. Graphic prints are always a great fit for a kid space, and this rug seemed like an ideal choice. Plus, it's an indoor/outdoor rug, so it should hold up to the rough play of my sons.

The room is almost complete, and I will share pics when it's ready. I think they are really enjoying sharing a bedroom so far.....and I am glad because I felt guilty taking away the beds and individual rooms they both loved so much.
