DOUBLE-DUTY DEN

Since moving in our home almost three years ago, our downstairs den has been used only for storage purposes. It would be nice to have it as usable space, but its current condition is very lack-luster (to say the least). There is a built-in bar area that needs to be ripped out, and the tile flooring is so ugly that it just screams basement. We are thinking of putting in a pool, and this room has sliding glass doors that lead to a back patio area - so I want the room to feel beachy and bright. The flooring is the best place to start. Since it is technically the basement, I would like something cost-affordable but still flows with the rest of the house. I'm thinking a white-washed, pre-fab wood flooring would be perfect.

Something currently lacking in our house is a proper office space. My husband and I both use our dining room for that currently, but it would be nice to be able to go downstairs to have more privacy when needed. Also, tons of storage space will need to be incorporated because we are hoping to turn the existing storage area in the room into a bathroom, which means we will need a spot to put all the Christmas decorations and other junk we want to hide away. A wall of modern, white, Ikea wardrobes will hopefully be enough space to accommodate everything. There is also an old armoire in the room that I would like to paint watermelon pink, like the example on my mood board.

Most of the house is neutral with little pops of color, so downstairs is the perfect place for me to add some bold, pink flair. I think it is a fun design with happy vibes. I just hope that this project doesn't take seven months to complete like our last renovation.
